03 Dec New prognosis
In August mom had a scan which showed the tumor in her kidney had grown. This meant that the chemo was no longer working so mom switched to immunotherapy. Last week she had her first scan since starting the new treatment which showed even more significant growth in her tumor. Mom was given a prognosis of 3 months and has stopped the new treatment. She decided to undergo 2 weeks of (palliative) radiation treatment for her kidney pain.
Charlie, Gwyn, and I came up this weekend (after the new prognosis was given) and spent a long weekend together planning for mom’s future as well as visiting, laughing lots (even during the radiation oncology assessment!), crying a little, but mostly just appreciating each other and enjoying our time together.
We will apply for hospice and will work on making sure mom will be comfortable for the foreseeable future.
